September 7th-9th 2007 - WikiAfrica Mantua
In conjunction with the Festivaletteratura of Mantua, lettera27 Foundation organizes a series of workshops, which provide new African pages on Wikipedia, providing a concrete and fully visible view of the operation of Internet best known encyclopedia: thanks to the involvement of various authors, the meetings and discussions produce, on-site and in real time, new online articles in WikiAfrica.
The workshops provide new Wikipedia contents through a collaborative writing process that takes place both on- and off-line. Many keynote speakers introduce the topics, the participants contribute to the fine-tuning and improvement of the various pages and a Wikipedia administrator provides information concerning the formatting and rules of Wiki projects; the lettera27 editors upload the contents, putting them on-line in real time, while a cameraman films the event as it unfolds.
WikiAfrica Mantua is intended as a space in which to explore in depth the themes and narrative forms of African cultural production (focusing on literature, the visual arts, boundaries, and the oral tradition) as well as a forum, naturally enough, for a discussion of Wikipedia controversial encyclopedism.
The workshops are part of WikiAfrica, a project intended to help "Africanize" Wikipedia.
